Minutes –10/20/2007:
· Interested in working with single mothers in the African-American community
· Brainstorm – root causes:
- Child care
- Discrimination
- Training/skills
- Education-drop out of school
- Self-confidence/loss of hope
- Social stigma
- Job availability
- Transport/access
- Household obligations
- Being both parents
- Cultural expectations
- Poor support network-no connections perhaps
· Questions:
- Employment rates – what types of employments?
- Interests-what specific areas or subjects are they particularly keen on?
- Entrepreneurship – are they entrepreneurial? If they are, whose serving them?
- Skills – any collective skill that we can tap into
- Group networks – organizational support
- Single mother phenomenon – how has that changed path?
- Housing-live alone, on streets, parents, group housing?
